Harnessing Knowledge Assets.

Bump, bump, bump goes Winnie the Pooh.
‘There must be a better way of doing this, if only we could stop long enough to think about it’.

Why a Knowledge ‘Workout’?

Do you find yourself faced with repeating mistakes, duplicating work, not transferring ideas, competing below potential, lacking creative ideas, being over dependent on key people, not leveraging scale or wasting time on finding ‘who knows what’……?
Part of the solution to many of these challenges is to manage your knowledge assets more effectively. Whether you are already involved in knowledge management (KM) or wanting to start, a knowledge ‘Workout’ helps you to step back from the demands of the everyday operations, and ‘see the wood from the trees’ to:

  • Get to grips with what you are trying to do and how to achieve it
  • Develop understanding, consensus and buy-in across the team
  • Decide together on the optimal way forward, focusing on priorities

The Approach:

The approach is tailored to specific needs and typically involves the team for 1-2 days depending on needs. It is a facilitated process which:

  • Provides access to understanding of experiences of others and lead practices
  • Is designed and tailored according to agreed outcomes:
    • Reassess existing priorities and activity
    • Plan for new

Synchroni principals have worked with Knowledge Management (KM) practitioners for over 5 years and a Knowledge Workout is an opportunity to ‘take stock’ and realign resources …..

Purpose
  • To develop a consensus on what KM means to this organisation
  • Understand Lead Thinking and principles of Best Practice

Outcomes

  • Agreement on what we mean by KM and its relevance to us
  • Principles for taking forward.
Purpose
  • To agree the priority focus for harnessing knowledge within our organisation
  • Profile the case for committing resource and taking action.

Outcomes

  • Agreed objectives, purpose and benefits
  • Understanding the 'fit' of KM within the organisation, ie not an end in itself but a process for supporting and driving performance.
Purpose
  • Agreed how to take forward: who, what, when...
  • Build and develop existing good practice, integrate new

Outcomes

  • Agreed framework for taking forward
  • Priority initiatives profiled
  • Alignment with lead thinking and best practices in KM
  • Understanding and commitment across the team.

Results and Benefits:

Investing time in a workout will help you to:

  • Align your resource with business priorities
  • Enable you to develop a consensus for moving forward - either shelving a potential initiative or drive forward with confidence and ‘buy-in’ from all involved
  • Highlight lead thinking and new approaches which could accelerate performance
  • Connect your up and coming management to lead thinking and provide high value in organisational learning for a relatively low investment
  • Gain commitment of the key people from the outset – the ‘planners are the doers’.

A Knowledge ‘Workout’ ensures that any KM initiative is linked to key business priorities:
not the end in itself but an enriched ‘means to an end’.
